In 2011 work overtook my life. Yet I still passionately believe that the idea of “work-life balance” is a great fallacy. If you let it, it will damage your career, hurt your family, make your life mediocre, and make you feel guilty all the time. Please see my blog at CBS MoneyWatch for the three reasons you should abandon this outdated idea, and how to make your life “work” in 2012.
One of the reasons that the work-life balance is flawed is because it ignores how real life works. One of the most important things you can do in both your personal and professional life is to connect with interesting, successful people. I recently created an online course with Eben Pagan called Connected: How to Get Access to Anyone and Build a Powerful, Profitable Business Network that teaches you the importance and the process of creating powerful relationships with literally anyone.
The key to integrating your work and personal life in a healthy, productive way is to determine your core values. You can use the free “Mountains and Valleys” exercise to help uncover what’s worth living and working for.
